High School Musical!

I am way behind on blogging. Part of that reason is that I have been really busy with our dance studio's production of High School Musical. Last year we decided to offer a summer theater opportunity and produced Suessical Jr. This year it was HSM Jr. It's a lot of work and it's absolutely insane to try and work around the cast's summer vacations! But it's really the only time of year that the dancers and the athletes have enough time to do it. No one else is willing to work around their busy schedules but we know it's the only way to get it done.

We did two shows on Friday for elementary school kids and two shows on Saturday. Our final show will be on Monday - family night show! It turned out great. The kids really stepped up especially considering we never had one rehearsal with everyone there - not one! Somehow it all worked out. One important factor is that we have some pretty talented kids in our cast - that helps.

Kylie played Sharpay. Kendall was a thespian, cheerleader and skater. Bryan was a basketball player in our big Getcha Head in the Game number. I recruited him and Easton by paying them $25 each to be in one scene. I baked and bribed and begged to get boys in our production and we got some good ones. I am so proud of how far they came from the first audition to the performance.

After the final bows on Saturday's performance, Troy (played by Jordan Wilks) said he had an announcement that he wanted to make and asked for Sharpay to join him on stage. He said we could all consider this an alternate ending and asked her to homecoming. It was very cute. And she said yes.

Projects such as this are so much work and I often wonder why in the world we decided to do it. In the end, though, it is always worth it. These are the moments that a kid never forgets. I'm glad we did it and I'm glad it's almost over!

Also Happy Birthday Rhode! My grandson is one today!! He is celebrating at Lake Powell. I hope they are all having a great time.

Thanks for always coming through with the vision and then the energy to do it. It was a such a success and an experience and memory the kids will have forever. I am amazed how your mind works and marvel at how your body keeps up with it.
